Q1. In what ways does your media product challenge forms & conventions of real media products?

We have challenged certain conventions within our trailer to make it interesting and unique compared to other post-modernism action films. To do this we have subverted the forms and conventions of stereotypical trailer to engages with our audience in a more effective way as they are viewing different content. However we have still used and developed certain conventions to ensure that the audience will still watch the film and hopefully enjoy the challenged conventions as it is new to them.

Characters

Stereotypically  woman have a negative representation and can often be seen as weak and incapable of defending themselves, however society has progressed from this and are no longer as seen as a sexual object for men. Laura Mulvey is a theorist that says that you would find in films some sort of male gaze, where the camera would linger on the curves of a female, the male gaze will have no purpose to the product or the story line to the film. We have prevented this from happening by only using mid shots or long shots, we have only used one close up shot of Lucy, which is when she awakes. We have also kept to her covered up through the choice of clothing that we picked out for her.

Editing

We challenged our editing of the titles by choosing to have a transparent title with the footage behind it. Unlike previous title designs that we researched the background would be CGI made, to match the main themes of the film, or it would be a black background with the film title design. Instead we challenged these conventions that were typically used to present titles. This meant that our title was different to films, our title features transparent letters however the footage behind it is magnified and blurred within the letters of 'Siblings'. We have done this because it creates a unique and innovative look to our titles, still meeting the post-modernism genre features.

Location

We have challenged out types of locations, as big production films tend to have extravagant powerful locations, and can travel around the world to get the perfect location or use extensive CGI to create their ideal location. Instead we have challenged these perfectly suited locations that look strong on screen and have used familiar domestic locations that the audience is familiar with, this means that audiences can relate the to the location and create a connection as the location is what they are familiar to in their everyday life, this makes it seem more realistic and understandable for them.

Narrative

Another convention that we have challenged is that the character is forced to take the challenge otherwise she cannot get home and has to develop her own skills both physically and mentally in order for her to be able to do this. Unlike Neo in the film The Matrix he is given the option to be able to understand and take part in helping the world; through choosing which pill he takes. The links to Joseph Campbell's with the ordinary world stage as Neo is in the world that he knows and is comfortable in but he is given a choice to leave the world and discover the matrix
