Q4. How did you use media technologies in research, planning, construction & on evaluation?

Before we started to think about ideas or names for our trailer, we first researched post - modernism films and analysed trailers that had this key aspect to them. We analysed the sound, mise en scene, editing and camera shots that were used, and if some where favoured over others and when they were used, in the trailer. We used YouTube to watch the trailer on and analysed them on Microsoft Power point, which we then published on Author Stream meaning that it is accessible to any viewing the link as it is in a universal format. Between us we analysed 30 trailers (15 each) so that we had a thorough understanding of the forms and conventions used in trailers, this meant that we could use these or challenge or develop them to create a unique trailer that had different aspects which had been improved upon from previous trailers to ensure that our movie would be a success.

Other factors that we had to research before had was researching and analyzing posters, magazines and websites. Between us we created 2 magazines, one for total film and another for Empire, we each analysed the conventions that were used as both companies used different conventions or had a similarity between each issue of magazine. For example Empire magazine always used a 'plus' sign somewhere on the page, another example is that they always put the date and price in between the letter 'M' of empire. If we had not of researched this we would not have known what conventions to include and would not have been able to make successful magazines. To research the magazines and posters, I found copies of them online and saved them as JPEG's which I then added to my PowerPoint presentation where I analysed all of the research.

Another form to present our research which we frequently used was Prezi, it allowed us to create a more advanced presentation compared to traditional presentations, as users can pan, zoom and easily refer back to content. It creates a map like overview and meant that we could explore our ideas on our research and allowed us to come up with various ideas that we could explore when making our trailer. Due to the capabilities of Prezi it meant that I could embed my work into blogger or wix, or any other site that I wanted to, this made it quick and efficient to share with people.

Another key aspect of research was research into audience feedback and what their preferences were, we needed to find out what our audiences likes and dislikes were with post - modernism films. And so we surveyed our target audience with a variety of different questions about sound, editing, location and many more. To read more about our audience feedback, click here.

Lastly, once we had created a PowerPoint on Microsoft, we uploaded it to Authorstream, so that it could be in a universal format for everyone to view, since not everyone has Microsoft and its software. We could then upload this to blogger which users could flick through the pages of the presentation without to create an account for something or have Microsoft Powerpoint.
